I could name dozens of their songs that still hold up, and that I still listen to on a regular basis. Props to NSYNC and One Direction, but the Backstreet Boys are the best boy band of all time. My sister, Lauren, challenged me to do it, so I did.Ģ000- “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely” by the Backstreet Boys (#31 on Billboard) This post originated because in another post, I mentioned that I could never pick my favorite songs from the 2000s, because music has gone so downhill. It’s a shame, because “Get Another Boyfriend” and “Drowning” are two of the best Backstreet Boys’ songs, but they never reached the success of “I Want it That Way.” Also, where's the love for Weezer? I figured this criteria would help me only pick “popular” songs. If the song wasn’t on the Billboard Top 100 at the end of the year, I couldn’t pick it. While most of my favorite music acts peaked by the 1960s, I picked the best song from each year from 2000 through 2009. I roll my eyes at Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, but I would give my left arm if I could have seen the Everly Brothers in concert. My Pandora radio stations labeled, “Otis Redding Station” and “The Four Seasons Station” can attest to that statement. I am not a fan of current, popular music. “Story of My Life,” “No Control,” and “History” ROCK. I’m 23 years old, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I like One Direction. And Harry Styles can pull off a flamingo printed shirt like no other. While One Direction does not have a “Justin Timberlake,” they also do not have a “Joey Fatone” or a “Chris Kirkpatrick.” Fans actually like all of the members. You can never go wrong with “Something About the Way You Look Tonight.” Case in point, Liam Payne’s first audition, and my favorite performance of theirs during Elton John week. I’ve become a loyal viewer of the last seven seasons of X Factor UK, and I can say that the boys really can sing. There are three incredible versions of “Torn.” Natalie Imbruglia’s version (which is surprisingly a cover), Happy Endings’ Penny Heartz performance with her mom, and One Direction’s cover that they performed twice way back when they were contestants on X Factor UK in 2010. Moving on to a boy band that mad e boy bands cool again in the 2010s: One Direction. Example A: “I Drive Myself Crazy,” a ballad with a music video takes place in an insane asylum. But, there aren’t as many good *NSYNC songs and music videos compared to the Backstreet Boys. Who doesn’t know the “Bye Bye Bye” hand gesture? I can’t ignore “It’s Gonna Be Me,” since it’s been the most popular meme on April 30th for the past couple of years. While they were no Backstreet Boys, my sister Lauren did own the Justin Timberlake marionette doll and a poster (The JT doll creeped her out so much that she got rid of it.) “Tearin’ Up My Heart” is my personal favorite, but “Bye Bye Bye” and “Pop” are classics as well. Let’s move on to another influential boy band of the 1990s: *NSYNC. I thought this analogy was appropriate since Gosling was offered a spot in BSB back in the day, but turned it down. “Get Another Boyfriend” and “Drowning” are two of the most played songs on my iPod. Have you even heard of Half Nelson (2006) or Blue Valentine (2010)? It makes me think that you have not heard any other BSB songs.
Backstreet boys i want it that way trench coats movie#
While “I Want it That Way” is a great song, saying that it is your favorite Backstreet Boys song is like saying your favorite Ryan Gosling movie is The Notebook (2004). Keep in mind, this music video was a decade before the vampire and werewolf craze. Some people may disagree, but the choreography in the Backstreet Boys “As Long as You Love Me” and “I Want it That Way” music videos are as iconic as Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” music video and Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” song and video (and I’m a total Nirvana nut.) (insert links) Best choreography to ever exist goes to BSB’s “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back),” and 18 years later, Nick Carter’s still got it. If the first song that I learned all the words to was “Hopelessly Devoted to You” from Grease (1978), and the second song was definitely a Backstreet Boys song. Let’s start with the best of the boy bands, BSB (This declaration is not up for discussion.) The Backstreet Boys are my era and have been since the mid-1990s. If I was born ten years earlier, I’m sure I would care as much about New Kids on the Block, but that’s not my era.

I’ve been a fan of boy bands since the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC came on to the scene.
